Blizzard 2016

Newark was hit with more than two feet of snow. Please let us know about the City of Newark's response to the storm. Let us know what street you live on, what time it was plowed and whether it is passable now. We'll forward any complaints about streets not being plowed directly to administration of Mayor Ras Baraka. We'll compile this information so we know what the problems areas are for the next storm and work with the administration to better address these areas.

My daughters attend a Charter School in Newark – yes all public schools cancelled school tomorrow, however their school works on their own schedule. Unfortunately, they cancelled school because the streets in Newark aren’t plowed to drive on. It’s sad that every year Newark experience this and the schools on the Southside suffer as well. When will the Mayor care about the safety and well being of all as well as our children. Plow the side streets and not just the main streets.

I live on North 10th Street and Davenport Ave. My street was “plowed” sometime early this morning. However, cars that have tried to drive down my street have managed to get stuck. A few of us have helped those by pushing their cars back while they reve their engines and force them to reverse out of the street. It is absolutely ridiculous that budgets were cut and every year the city of Newark suffers during a snow storm due to streets not being plowed and safety concerns arise.

I reside at 187 North 11th Street (between 4th Ave n Park Ave). Our block has not gotten plowed, we go through this every single year. Our whole area never gets cleaned, all of the side streets surrounding us never get plowed. The only ones that get plowed are Park Ave and Roseville Ave and that’s because they are main streets.

There has not been one plow truck on the lower part of Shephard Avenue. But yet I see plow truck out and is been over 24hours . The street is impassable because of the snow. Digging cars out is useless cause so much snow they can not move. it’s amazing how the largest city in the state always has the worst work done by it’s city employees. I guess the leadership is the real problem in this city .

I have lived here most of my life. This is terrible. Those of us on secondary streets have no way to get out. A plow just came down Porter Ave.Now all of the families that dug cars out are blocked again. Mr. Mayor drive around would you want this for your family? I am a Newarker but this is really bad. Do something NOW!

I traveled down on Warren Street by West Market St, (by the Firehouse Truck No.10 & Engine No. 7) I became stuck, as the street has the sidewalk curb extended island plowed with part of the street…causing what snow is there to not determine the street. I was traveling slow and became stuck ontop of the sidewalk. I could not go back or forth. I had to walk home and get a shovel. I broke a shovel and had to go home and get another shovel. I cleared out after an hour part of the piled snow on the left to go and back and forth until I made a path forward…No fireman came out to help dig or give a generous push. I left the shovel handle in a pile of snow in the middle of the sidewalk to deter others driving there…Those sidewalk corners should be construction straight 90 degree angle, like they use to be!

This was the absolute worst snow experience. My block is still not plowed. My car is under 5 ft of snow because the men across the street plowed their side

I’ve called everyone. Even 911 isn’t picking up. I can’t wait for voting time and I promise to be very vocal and rally the troops. So disappointed right now.

It is now 8pm and Crescent Ave in the South Ward hasn’t been plowed. Per the recording from Mayor Baraka secondary streets were being cleared until 6pm. We have to wait until tomorrow now? The City is closed tomorrow but my job isn’t.

North 6th Street between 4th Ave. and Park Ave. There has been no plowing through my block at all since the storm and I have witnessed so many vehicles getting stuck trying to get through. For monday, everyone in my household had to call out of work since we can’t get anywhere.

Irvine Turner Blvd and Belmont Terr this whole area has been in touched if there was a medical emergency someone wouldn’t make it… there should have been no reason to wait for snow to stop the plows should have been out early and it wouldn’t be this bad

I live on Dandridge Way off Howard St. (Central Ward) where the JFK REC Center is located. Only three short streets are handled by the city of Newark the rest is plowed and handled by Newark Housing Authority. Every year the city of Newark plows Howard St where JFK is and forgets all about this 3 little streets. Every year we have to REMIND Newark that we are private homes and Newark need to plow us. Usually by day 3 we get salted and plowed. Every year since we bought the damn house 6 years ago. We have people who need to go work elderly poeple, children that need to go to school..

Etc etc. This year is a special case of craziness.
