Whatever profit the city may have derived for allowing the Sopranos “prequel” to be filmed here was offset by the intangible cost of having public attention drawn once again to the 1967 rebellion. Many people living just a few miles away think of “the riots” whenever they hear the name “Newark.” The broadcasting of “Saints of Newark” will reinforce that association, which has been impeding the Newark Renaissance for 52 years.

I’m having issues with water department. I submitted water for pickup in October/November and waited the 30 days indicated and started to reach out for results only to find out last month that another sample is needed. No reason was given. I called to request pickup forMay 2 and the water has been sitting on my porch as was requested for 10 days and counting. I have a 2 year old son and I understand lead can affect young children the most. Please help us.

The number 27 verona mt prospect bus are always running behind schedule! This has caused a lot of the residents to be late for work and children to be late for school! Something needs to be done about this situation.

Good afternoon. My name is Dr. Nancy Shaw. I represent the Newark Community Healthy Pet Clinic. We have been providing no cost preventive veterinary services in Newark and are looking for a new space to hold our clinics. I recently visited the Vince Lombardi Community Center and think it would be a great place to hold our once monthly Sunday clinics. It takes us about a month and a half to get things up and running again. We were looking at March 3rd, but understand the site might not be available. Could you let me know if you would be interested in our providing these services to qualified members of your community?

Re:NCAP Ward Meetings/Support for our CCRB

    Dear Councilman Ramos,

On Wednesday evening, October 10th, we invite to come and greet the community as we host the fourth of five of our Ward based community feedback forums as we continue to build support for our Civilian Complaint Review Board.

Our meeting for the North Ward will take place at the Lombardi Center, 201 Bloomfield Avenue. from 6 to 8pm.

We want you to remind the community that we, the people of the City of Newark, created our new Board through an ordinance that was unanimously passed by our City Council in 2016, and that our continued unity is important as the fight for the Board continues in the Courts.

    I can be reached at 973 202 0745

    Thank you in advance.

Hello, my husband and I have called your office on numerous occasions asking to please be called back to discuss an urgent matter, and we have been told the message would be passed along and we could expect to hear from you in the next few days; maybe this is a better route. I live next to an abandoned house which, to our understanding was bought and supposedly going to be fixed/ torn down and now it has been 1 year 1/2 & these these people have not only done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, they don’t even keep up with the maintenance. The grass is so high & spills into the street. You can’t even walk on the sidewalk or SEE oncoming traffic or pedestrians. The worst part is the traffic of drug addicts & prostitutes that hop over the gate & do their business in there, DAILYEVERY FEW MINUTES. I can’t enjoy taking my kids to my own backyard because on too many occasions I’ll be met with someone shooting up drugs, taking a piss or engaging in sexual activities . This house has caught on fire more than once in the past and I’m very afraid of it happening again and we end up losing OUR home since it is so close and the amount of garbage and forage is hazardous. We have called city hall, code regulation people, your office…no one knows anything. Supposedly their was a notice on the door saying they had a certain time frame to do something with the house or the city would tear it down…that was months ago and the house is still there..GETTING WORSE. I don’t know if this is in your power to be able to help or get something done but this needs to be fixed. The new owners need to be held responsible asap. This house should have been torn down YEARS AGO. It is putting a lot of people in danger. Anyone can get dragged in there, beaten, robbed, raped and you can’t see if someone IS hiding waiting to jump out at you. And I don’t want to hear "call the cops when you see activity " Newark cops don’t give a damn about these kinds of problems. My street is riddled with prostitutes/dealers/users and EVERYONE knows it and cops will come up and down broadway worrying about double parked cars rather than actual crime. Someone needs to TAKE CARE OF THIS. Many people on this block have called different places trying to get this situation fixed. Don’t wait until this ends up on the news because of a tragedy.

Mr. Ramos, I would like to bring to your attention to the situation with the collection of recyclables in Heller Parkway between Mt. Prospect and Woodside and adjacent streets. The collection has not happened in the last two weeks. I did call the Sanitation Dept. and their answer was that they are working on new contracts but it does not make sense. I do not see other streets with this problem, especially in Forests Hills. Please address this issue as this makes our neighborhood unsightly and attracts vermin.

    Thank you.

There are major potholes on Christopher Lane in Newark DE. They just made Margaret street one way, so they are forcing more people to use Christopher Lane to exit from the Creek View Road area and these potholes are very large in size. These have been there for over 7 months and are getting bigger. We need these fixed as more traffic will be using this road.

Wow. The potholes in front of 61 Victoria (6th) avenue are making buildings shake when trucks or buses roll into them. THey are 3 inches and more deep in places. You can see the bricks that once were the avenue. SOMETHING has to be done.

It sounds like an explosion everytime even a car goes into and out of these series of potholes.

Someone on a motorcycle or a bike in the dark can get SERIOUSLY INJURED. At this point it is a public health issue.

I recently moved from Manchester pl to Summer Ave. And I noticed the streets are filthy because we don’t get no street cleaning. Why? It’s a shame that only the streets from Mt Prospect n up are the only ones that gets street cleaning, the rest are forgotten.

Dear Councilman Aníbal Ramos Jr. ,

My name is Gabrielle Vera, I’m 18 years old and a student at Rutgers University Newark. I grew up in Newark and live in our city’s North ward. I am the former secretary of the Newark Student union, an organization that worked tirelessly for the return of local control in our city.

Throughout my high school career I dedicated countless hours to engaging, supporting, and empowering my community. I have done work with Sadie Nash to support young woman of color and was recently selected as an Aspen young leaders fellow in Newark.

I began my college career early after dropping out of high school at 16 years old and returning to a non-traditional program known as gateway to college , located at Essex County College. After returning to school, I graduated at 17 with a high school diploma and 40 college credits, and immediately began Rutgers University in the Fall of 2017. All of my experiences combined led me to decide to become a political science major and legal studies minor at Rutgers.

As a political science major, I have been given a once in a lifetime opportunity to intern at our nation’s capital with the Washington Center. Unfortunately the costs of the program total to approximately $14,700. I have already earned a residential scholarship through the Honors Living Learning Community at Rutgers Newark to help minimize costs, however I am still in need.

Is there any way that you, Councilman, can assist me with scholarship funds? I have and still am an active member in my community and see this as a great opportunity for my community to help me. As we all know, it takes a village.

Please keep in touch and read part of my story through my GoFundMe account.

    Thank you for your time,

    Dear Councilman,

Several non-residents park on Mount Prospect between Heller Parkway and Graftin Ave leaving with residents with no choice but to park on the bike lane and subsequently receiving $54 fines. This is unacceptable and something must be done that favor the residents living on the avenue.
