    Good morning,

I have been on a waiting list since February 18, 2001 to remove two trees in front of my property 69-71 Cutler Street, Newark. The roots to these trees have uplifted my sidewalks as well as my driveway. As requested, I have sent quite a few emails with pictures and have made phone calls. Someone is always going to call me back and it never happens.

Recently one tree was cut down but not the other. Interestingly, my neighbors across the street, whom works for the city, had their trees and sidewalks done. I don’t understand why I’ve been on a list for so long and phone calls are never returned. How is a business run like this? I was born and raised in Newark and love my city. Where is the common courtesy of a return phone call, an explanation?

I am now trying to sell my home and if the trees are not removed and sidewalk not repaired, the deal will not go through. I can’t afford to have this done.

Can I please have the courtesy of a phone call with a status? It would be truly and greatly appreciated.

    Maria T. Marcano DePaula

I live at 41 Cutler Street and today, Friday June 9 I put out my recyclable which was bottles and cans in a recycable bag on the curb and the bag was not picked up, The company that Newark uses pick up when they feel like it or sometime not at all. Firstly, I had a problem with them a few weeks ago wherein I was putting out my cardboard and the truck was going fast and the guys are trying to keep up and missing garbage that we homeowners put out…Just last week they were going right pass my neighbors bottles and cans and I told them they missed it. Im sure the reason my cans were not picked up today was on purpose because I saw him look at the bag and kept going. He picked up my neighbors bag on my right side of both neighbors as well as my neighbors on my left but left mine. I am totally pissed off and my neighbor also said he saw him and didn’t pick it up on purpose..Looked at it kept walking……Pissed with me because we had a few words. Last thing I want to do is fie a complaint against the worker and the company..I have been a homeowner here for 22 years and if that recycle company is not doing their job then the City of Newark should look into replacing them. Not the Regular garbage collectors but the recyclable company crew…as fast as the truck goes I’ve seen them drop stuff out of my some of my neighbors cans in the street and not pick it up. and we end up picking up trash that should be on the truck but in the street. I have had enough and I would like a response and i should have had my camera with me this morning but if it happens again..I will come to City Hall and file a complaint for today and my neighbor will be the witness. Appreciate a response… Thank you and appreciate your time..

I’m a long-time resident near Tiffany Blvd. Lately, the stretch of Greenwood Lake St. between Highland and Agate has become a hangout for everything from people blatantly hanging out and smoking up, a trash dump, and a “lover’s lane”. That’s just the past week. I couldn’t tell you the last time I saw a patrol car go by. Now we have someone dumping bulk trash near the train tracks and dragging it to the middle of the street. The street cleaner was around, but the trash blocking the intersection of Greenwood & Honiss since last night is still there.

I’m a home owner on Verona Ave and would like to know the status of the cleanup of the rubble from the El Batchatipico building. It is horrible that we must see this still at this point the when the Fire was about 2 months ago. Please attempt to expedite the clean up process as we now have the homeless and drug addicts digging through the rubble.

3rd Ave from Mccarter Highway to Broadway are extremely filled with trash on the road. No street sweepers have ever come to clean it up. Can the city address this issue?

Good Morning, Mr.Anibal Ramos I live at 460 North 7th Street I’m the owner and live at this residency for many years, Yesterday 4/12/2017 was bulk pickup, I drove around the block to see how many items people put out in their front houses., reason is I received a letter from the City of Newark stating no more than 8 items and NO CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS. Well I was shocked to see tons of construction debris at 452 North 7th St.. It was around 8:30pm I heard commotion outside and to my surprise the Newark Sanitation truck was outside and the sanitation works were arguing with the homeowner of 452, regarding the Construction Debris. After a while the City truck backs up to 452 and all of the Contruction Debris plus more that they were bringing from the back yard was taken away. They left and did not pick up my bulk or my neighbors bulk because the truck was full.

This is not acceptable Mr. Ramos I pay my taxes, when I have Construction Debris I called the appropriate party to remove it and pay for it. I DON’T BRIBE CITY WORKERS. This needs to be stopped.

    Thank you

Councilman Ramos, the resident parking situation on Mount Prospect Avenue between Heller Parkway and Grafton Avenue is unacceptable. Residents have to resort to parking in the bike lane while taking the risk of being ticketed. Also, we cannot even block our own driveways without being penalized. There are numerous commercial vehicles taking up resident parking spaces. Something must be done to prioritize overnight resident parking on this street.

    Thank you.

Hello Councilman Ramos, my name is Nakirah Sykes and I work for Newark Housing Authority at the Stephen Crane Elderly site at 900 Franklin Ave. I am writing you to voice my concern on a pending matter with two residents here. In the past your office has called me when Mr. Amado Ramos or Mr. Feliberto Delgado had concerns with the office here. Today Mr. Ramos told the security guard " I’m happy Trump won, maybe now we can go back to hanging you monkeys." Mr. Delgado has several resident complaints against him for his racial slurs, and threats and is infamous here for referring to the black residents as monkeys as well. I have had my pride and integrity for lunch on more occasions than I’m proud of. My fellow co-workers as well. Stephen Crane Elderly is about 70 percent Hispanic, with almost all of the staff Black. Although Mr. Delgado and Mr. Ramos have and will continue to receive notices to cease on such behavior, the use of language towards the staff and black residents will not cease. Perhaps the same staff at your offices would be able to speak to these men on the behalf of the black staff and residents here at Stephen Crane Elderly. Your help is greatly appreciated

Good afternoon, Mr.Anibal Ramos, I reside in 131-147 block of Oraton Street and we empty abandon garages across the street from my house and because they are empty people feel that it is ok to dump their garbage and bulk items there, and of course the garbage men will not pick it up because the garbage is not in front of a residence. Can you please have someone come and pick up the garbage and also clean out the garage from all the garbage that people have thrown into them.

Thank you in advance for your help

I am not a short sighted person, but I believe our city counsel is.

What this city needs to do is make their neighborhoods more desirable to live in. Strongly encourage citizens to maintain and beautify their homes. Their should be an ordinance that homeowners are responsible to fix their broken and upheaved sidewalks and driveways. Their should be a crackdown on the quality of life issues that have a continued degrading affect on neighborhoods.

And before giving $12 million dollars to a developer for a new highrise, they should repave some of the horrendous streets in our neighborhood and elsewhere around the city. You can only patch streets so much. Except for the Mt. Prospect Ave. project, I do not believe there has been any street repaving in Forest Hill for three years. That is not acceptable and is very short sighted.

We arguably live in the best neighborhood in Newark and our church members cannot go to service without worrying about their cars being broken into. You want to build a great city? Start with building a great neighborhood and all the other elements will fall into place.
