NEWARK, NJ - August 30, 2009 - Charity may begin at home but, for many college-bound Newark high school students, it has found its way to Hendricks Field Golf Course. Newark Council member Anibal Ramos, Jr., in partnership with the Latino Institute, Inc., will host the North Ward Scholarship Fund Golf Classic. The North Ward Scholarship Fund began as Ramos' personal endeavor to provide financial assistance to college-bound students from his district. He has since seen it blossom into a successful community collaboration. With the support of local businesses including Express Check Cashing Inc., Pueblo/Twin City Supermarkets and the McDonalds/HACER Program, the Scholarship Fund has raised more than $10,000 and will award eight students scholarships of $1,000 each. Registration for the golf classic is begins today at 7:30 a.m., followed by breakfast at 8 a.m. Tee time is at 9 a.m. and luncheon will follow at 1 p.m. at Gencarelli's Restaurant. -NEWARK- |
