WHAT: Free Home Ownership Seminar Ramos to Host Predatory Lending Seminar NEWARK - In a year that has seen record home mortgage loan defaults and has politicians around the country calling for a nationwide foreclosure moratorium, North Ward Council Member, Anibal Ramos, Jr. believes that knowledge is power against such an economic scourge. That is why on Wednesday, December 12, Ramos, along with the Essex County Division of Community Action and the City of Newark Division of Housing and Real Estate is hosting a free Home Owners Community Meeting. The seminar will serve to: connect citizens with myriad sources of information regarding home ownership and financing, educate first-time and existing homeowners about their options if they are facing difficulty making their mortgage payments, teach homeowners and potential home owners how to protect themselves in a troubled mortgage market, and supply other essential home ownership tools. Our goal is to arm people with the necessary tools to keep their homes and communities safe and secure. We cant just sit back and let the market do whatever it will to our families, especially when it comes to predatory lending practices. We have to be proactive about making sure were protected. This seminar goes a long way towards doing that, Ramos said. Refreshments and hors d’uvres will be served. |
