Newark is entitled to receive about $328,000 as part of the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant from the federal government, which can be used to pay for police overtime, community policing and officers walking the beat.
However, the administration of President Trump is withholding the grant because Newark is a sanctuary city, which means the city won't use local funds to help with immigration enforcement unless it is required by a court. You can read more about it here.
Sign our petition to tell President Trump to release funding for public safety in Newark.
