Over the last four years, I have worked with Mayor Ras Baraka and my City Council colleagues to make Newark a better city.
As North Ward Councilman, I was the lead sponsor of legislation creating Newark's Green Acres Program, Earned Sick Leave and amending city's tax abatement policy to ensure that our schools get their fair share.
We have seen unprecedented development both downtown and in the North Ward. We have seen the construction of new housing throughout the ward, including affordable units. Our Mount Prospect Avenue businesses are thriving and I have worked with business owners to create the North Ward's second business improvement district on Bloomfield Avenue to help those businesses reach their full potential.
I have worked to bring new schools and health care facilities to the North Ward and worked with my council colleagues to ensure Saint Michael's Medical Center remained open. I have also focused on quality of life concerns, such as identifying funding for an additional 10 code enforcement officers and hiring additional police officers.
