Change in Police Policy

The City of Newark has issued a new policy directing police officers to refer victims of crimes, such as simple assault, criminal mischief and harassment to file complaints in municipal court, rather than compile an incident report themselves. If I’m a tax paying citizen, then I should get the services I’m paying for, even if it is the basic of services.

This is totally unacceptable and appears to be a deterrent for residents NOT to report certain crimes in order to play with crime stats. If I call the NPD for any crime including quality of life issues, I expect to see my tax dollars at work.

this is a terrible idea and it should be reversed. Our Municipal Court is already overwhelmed and we don’t have enough judges. Newark residents deserve better .
