Blizzard 2016

Newark was hit with more than two feet of snow. Please let us know about the City of Newark's response to the storm. Let us know what street you live on, what time it was plowed and whether it is passable now. We'll forward any complaints about streets not being plowed directly to administration of Mayor Ras Baraka. We'll compile this information so we know what the problems areas are for the next storm and work with the administration to better address these areas.

Ann St and all surrounding side streets in the Ironbound have not been plowed at all. No emergency vehicles can get through and fire hydrants may be buried. This is so dangerous!!! Where are the plows?? There hasn’t been any snow all winter so the budget must still be there for snow removal. What the heck is going on?? Now it may all freeze overnight and plows won’t be able to do the job. This is absolutely unacceptable. If needed, ask the governors of states like Minnesota to give city hall lessons on what to do in case of this much snow!!!

You really do not want to hear my honest feedback. Therefore I’ll give you the PG rated abridged version. The streets in my neighborhood of Forest Hills were not touched ONE TIME. I have a father who is a nurse at University hospital and brother who is a Newark fire fighter. Both of them have to be at work Monday morning. My watch says it’s close to 1:00 AM and the way the streets are, there’s no way they’re getting to work without risking their lives. I’m most likely going to call out of work tomorrow as well. Shame on you. Do you honestly think this is how you run a city? Did you think you’d save money this way? God knows you charge us enough in taxes to pay for it. What a joke. I’d love to see pictures of Mayor Baraka’s street. I’ll bet it looks immaculate, as if it had never snowed. There isn’t a whole lot that will piss off city residents. But when you effectively force us into our homes for days on end by refusing to plow the streets, you’re lucky we don’t throw you out of office. Even if you plowed tonight, it wouldn’t make a difference by the morning. All the snow has hardened and the trucks won’t be able to reach the ground.

    Thanks for nothing.

Everyone on Johnson st decided that it was okay to throw ALLL the snow of their driveway in the street so now there’s literally mountains of snow in mid street. Those people should be fined. There’s literally no way in hell any vehicle can move. People need to get to work. Please help us out. Thank you.

They knew about this storm we all did, there was no prep ! They could have been out since the snow fall started plowing, they still have yet to plow my road and it is 12:24am on Monday! I will be missing work tomorrow because of this, is Mr mayor going to pay me ? Or how about the councilman ??? Bet they are plowed out ! says there’s 5 plows out tonight in east ward and I haven’t seen ONE! Over the whole weekend, but yet both Newark had 30 plows sent to them!?!?

As of midnight, Monday, Jan 25, Linden St has not been plowed a single time. There are 5’ snow banks on either end of the street, making the entire street impassible. We have been in touch with our local council person who promises it will be addressed overnight.

Crews should have been out during the storm, so everything was a bit more manageable.

Seems city was unprepared… And the plowing and salting ritual for each inhabited area should have began right from the start of the snowfall with its respective repeatative follow ups….. My area is the Ironbound near 6corners between Wilson Ave and Chestnut streets….. Dont believe i seen a city sanitation plow yet 12am 26th of January…. My hope is they are not expecting a rushed vehicle shovel out and move it abruptly so they can plow suddenly……… Before the sun has a chance to help melt all the refrooze unplowed snow. ;(. Especially by the elderly & handicapped….

The Forest Hill area has not been plowed as of yet. Clifton Avenue has become a parking lot. I have lived in NJ for eight years now and this is the first time that at least one snow plow has not been through the area after a storm.

A lot of people were ready for the snow but not at the fact that 24 hours past by after the blizzard stooped and still no clean roads , my sidewalk is clean , drive way , car but I’m still stuck because of these roads . How are people suppose to stay out of the roads if there required to still work on Monday with the roads being in this condition .

Mr. Councilman are you really going to help or are you just showing face and acting as if you care? Verona Avenue along with many other surrounding streets are a mess and dangerous so when will we have snow removal! ?

While it was definitely a lot of snow and the winds were violent, in the late hours of last night and the hours of friday night/early hours saturday (3/4am), this could have been dealt with earlier on. I have work tomorrow (Monday) and no matter the fact that I can dig out my car from its spot, I cannot drive it anywhere because streets were still unclean at 10pm Sunday evening and my friend from nyc had to take an Uber to the train station and still got stuck in the snow. The travel ban was lifted by that hour but what is the purpose of the travel ban being lifted if travel was still not safe or plausible? I just moved to the Ironbound about 4 to 5 months ago. I grew up here as a child and moved back to get in touch with my cultural roots again, but I am already feeling like I need to move to another city because this is unacceptable. If someone could kind reply as to why action was not taken earlier, it would be appreciated.

Woodside Avenue between Mt.Clair and Grafton has not seen a plow come through. The storm was being tracked on the forecast for a week. Newark should have been ready. It was advised that Newark residents stay off the streets so that essential workers can get through in a case of emergency and so that the plow trucks can get their job done. Ummmmm WHERE ARE THE TRUCKS! 11:19pm nothing has been done! Way too go! Terrible πŸ‘ŽπŸΌπŸ‘ŽπŸΌπŸ‘ŽπŸΌπŸ‘ŽπŸΌ oh and volunteers needed… Put those tax dollars to use… Newarks response to the blizzard was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!

I took a walk to my mothers house since she lives a block away only to find out my street was blocked in with snow because they plowed the Main Street (Bergan St.) but not any of the sides streets. All of my neighbors spent the entire day cleaning their cars and now to wait and see if the street gets cleaned and only to have to reclean again because when they plow they will block your car in again. Luckily I don’t work tomorrow because if I did there is no way I would be able to get out of my street. We also received a message stating by 6pm all side streets will be plowed I guess they meant 6am the next day.
