Blizzard 2016

Newark was hit with more than two feet of snow. Please let us know about the City of Newark's response to the storm. Let us know what street you live on, what time it was plowed and whether it is passable now. We'll forward any complaints about streets not being plowed directly to administration of Mayor Ras Baraka. We'll compile this information so we know what the problems areas are for the next storm and work with the administration to better address these areas.

I live on North 7th Street right in front of the school (Dr.William Horton) and not one plow has passed by. Shouldn’t the area surrounding the schools be a priority? Many of us on this block have to get to work and I still have class tomorrow so how are we supposed to go anywhere when the street hasn’t even been plowed?

I live on 26 wakeman ave. Spent close to twohours to take out my car to notice they haven’t even plowed my street. A car actually was stuck over night on nursery ave.and nothing why do we pay taxes? The city worries about certian area’s do to thier personal reasons or what not but what if your mother or child needed a ambulance? They would die before any medical attention could reach the due to negligence of the city of newark.

Wow, I’m truly upset at the fact that it’s Sunday Jan 24,10 pm and we recently had the plows pass by our street. At this point the snow is pretty hard making it pretty tough to even get out of our driveways. What happen here.

Terrible. They should tow and ticket cars on main roads blocking the plows. Most side streets haven’t seen a plow at all. There’s a video circulating fb for years: shows a wood chipper type of contraption…actually looks like a large snow blower…shows it driving down the street with a dumpster following next to it and it puts all the snow in there. After its full…there’s already an empty dumpster riding along beside it. We need a solid system like that. Plenty of residents were shoveling into the street. That obviously does not help. It will be a perpetual cycle.

I live on North 7th Streett between 2nd and 3rd I have yet to see a plow come down my street once it has been 24 hours since the snow has stopped. it snowed 48hours.
In the last 3 days I have not seen one plow truck anywhere.

This is inexcusable with the amount of money that we pay in taxes

You going around giving us the excuse that if everybody just stayed home we wouldn’t be on the roads getting vehicles unstuck yet the roads aren’t even plowed you wouldn’t even be able to get out of your own parking spot

Leaving in Newark for years I can’t believe how terrible the conditions the streets are after this storm never have I seen streets in such terrible conditions. The people in charge should be ashamed of themselves how terribly they have handled this storm. It is 10:42pm and North 6 th street has yet to be cleaned!

Its a shame that in this big city, the streets took so long and still aren’t clean. They quick to summon home owners but do as they please. Smh

You and the police were my lifesavers today. The ESU unit was able to get me to dialysis. WIth that said, It is now after 10 pm on SUnday night and there has not been one plow through. If an ambulance or fire truck had to get here they would not be able to, the city would be responsible if someone dies.We are a pretty busy street, the only one to go from Bloomfield Ave to Park Ave straight through. I dont know what the sanitation dept. is doing but it is horrible. We are prisoners on this block , we cannot get our cars out. Will I need to call the police again on Tuesday morning. I have dialysis at 5 am.

We have yet to see a plow truck through our street and its a school zone…many cars stuck with no way out although they shouldn’t have been out, I would want others to help me so between my neighbor Nelly Irizarry, my son 15yr son Carlos Concepcion (Bloomfield Tech freshman) myself, we helped over 10 cars today and 1 yesterday who was stuck right in the middle of the road in the middle of the block. While classes are cancelled for tomorrow, many have to still attempt to make it to work and still no snow plow.

Broad street between 4th Ave and 3rd Ave, North Newark

SNOW STORM Strategic plan definitely needs some brainstorming…Help!

My street hasn’t been plowed yet as of 10:10 pm 1/24/16. I live on Doby place off Lincoln Street which is right off of Court street. Court street was the only of the three streets plowed and it can use a few more plows as it is still covered with snow

I live on Rose Street not to be confused with Rose Terrace. I live across from the cemetery and we havent been plowed yet either. Amazing since Bergen is one hop skip and jump away. I can see ppl driving around but me I’m buried in snow the street impassable not even 4wheel drive cant help maneuver here. It’s bad enough no one cares about cleaning the cemetery but now I’m trapped in my space too. Digging out won’t do any good because your plows will still bury me again. Please do better, I’m jealous watching other drive a mere 50ft from my curb.

It was absolutely POOR. Not a single plow or salt truck has been past my street (Forest Hill Parkway) cars have been struggling all day! Grafton avenue and heller parkway are both barely passable. It’s unacceptable. The county roads (Franklin Ave, Bloomfield Ave, branch brook park) are clear to the blacktop, but I can barely get off my street! And as I’m calling 311, the lines are busy. This gets worse every winter. Disgusting!

The street that was not plowed is Ruggero Plaza off of 7th Avenue. It took a few residents including to shovel the snow so no cars would get stuck. Minorities need service too. We pay taxes too.

I live on the 300 block of Nth 12th Street and neither my street nor the neighboring streets have been plowed. We had the same exact issue last yr and many cars were damaged due to the snow becoming ice in the middle of the road. I was forced to use public transportation bc the street was not passable unless you had some sort of utility vehicle. My wife works in Kenilworth NJ and cannot take public transportation to work at 4am. Can you please see that the streets get plowed at least once? I personally saw a plow come through at 9pm but the plow was up and no salt was dropped. I’m assuming it was just driving by to get to next location or it was from the neighboring town of Bloomfield. It’s a shame bc Bloomfield had all their main and secondary streets plowed and they’re literally only one street away from us in North Newark. Thank you.

I guess north ward is the only place that got snow… How bout the east ward. We pay taxes too and the streets are hurendous.due to snow there will be no garbage pick up so that will accumulate because trucks can’t get thru. How is that fair? Get trucks plows and load up trucks and clean up all the snow from all streets and dump the snow somewhere. Better think twice when raising taxes because their will be a revolution. We are screwed and stranded in our homes if we get another snow storm soon

It’s now 9:32 pm on Sunday night. Ridge Street has not been plowed, not one plow. We can’t get out of the driveway. My brother passed away on Friday and thank goodness is was Friday because if he had passed away on Saturday the funeral home would still be trying to get him from my house. This is absolutely inexacusable. My parents live with me and there are other elderly individuals on this block. Thank goodness no one had an emergency and had to get to a hosptial because they would never had made it. The mayor’s sorry excuse earlier today that it was people not respecting the travel ban and therefore the police had to deal with car accidents is not only bogus but highly insulting to the good people of this city. Since when did police officers plow the streets? I could have sworn that was the sanitation department? But what do I know? I’ve only lived in Newark for 40 of the last 54 years. This is a disgrace. It is an abomination and I cannot wait to take my family and my Forest Hill taxes with me.
