Blizzard 2016

Newark was hit with more than two feet of snow. Please let us know about the City of Newark's response to the storm. Let us know what street you live on, what time it was plowed and whether it is passable now. We'll forward any complaints about streets not being plowed directly to administration of Mayor Ras Baraka. We'll compile this information so we know what the problems areas are for the next storm and work with the administration to better address these areas.

hang in there Newark is a large city and most places are buried too. You’re not the only ones. Stop feeling abandoned or neglected. If you can’t or won’t dig yourselves out at least be patient and wait another day before complaining.

Id like to say that as a Newark resident I am appalled at these conditions. Not only did the city not distribute salt accordingly the night before the blizzard but my street has not been plowed once. My neighbors and l have been out all day shoveling trying to clear passage ways but it’s pointless since the rest of the city is still under snow. To make matters worse lm 35 weeks pregnant which means in any medical emergency or God forbid l go into labor l have no way out or access to a hospital because emergency vehicles will not be able to pass through. In all the years of weather related emergencies this is by far the worst the mayor has not done his job and should be ashmed. People had to work today and have to work tomorrow but due to these conditions many have had to call out, is the mayor reimbursing his residents for the missing work hours? Is he going to hold off our landlords when the 1st comes around and were short on rent because our pay is short? Not all employers have an emergency fund for their employees yet we have to grit and bare it. Schools are closed tomorrow, for those who cant miss work where do we take our children if we cant even move our cars? The city needs to do better, how is it that you announce this storm/blizzard all week but dont have an action plan for when it’s actually here? We need answers. This simply cannot continue.

I am disappointed at the response to the blizzard. Clifton Ave. Is a main thoroughfare and up until 6p did not see a plow. I could just imagine the secondary streets. There were reports on what was to be expected. What’s the plan?

Snowplow went through both streets that are either end of my block. They didn’t plow my st. Then went right down middle. The streel is wide .in order to get out ,you have to dig out to the middle of the street. There are seniors and disabled people who live here, I am 1 of them. I have no one to digest out of here. We NEVER get this street plowed to the last. THERE IS A SCHOOL ON THIS BLOCK. PARKING ON BOTH SIDES AND BUSSES. Parents dropping off students, the street is blocked all of the school year. Please help us here

Wondering if you Honorable Ramos ever saw my complaint on how I was not helped by the Department of Citizens Services when I was so poor I could not even afford a roll of toilet paper. Fortunately I received the kindness of friends while my case was finally approved four months later and too late.

On North 10th St. between Berkeley and Davenport (behind Gencarelli’d pizza)…Saw a plow early Saturday morning but we got about a foot of more snow and no plow or salt since then. Now that the residents have cleared out their own cars and snow piles are everywhere I don’t even know if a plow will be enough.

The city has done a terrible job of cleaning up the streets. Streets are still not plowed and the streets that have been plowed did not get the same attention as the streets that public figures live on. I live a few blocks from the sanitation department and watched them go back and forth all day yesterday. It wasn’t until this afternoon that they decided to go by once on my block. Why is it that the people and the businesses in New York are back up and running but Newark is almost at a standstill. Schools are closed and not everyone has childcare. We are seeing more accidents because of the horrible response from the city. I have to pay someone to shovel me out because I can not leave my child alone in the house. My neighbors are shoveling the street and dumping the snow in a pickup truck so that we can be able to move about. It’s the people in the city of Newark getting together to do what we must since our elected figures have failed us once again. I’m certain that someone must have been watching the news and heard that there was a blizzard on its way. HORRIBLE job of being prepared.

Mr Ramos, the city knew that it what going to be a huge storm, they should have been better prepare for this.

You put this website for people to put their complains, what good is it now, the storm is over and the city did not do their job the proper way. I believe the city should have done a better job from the beginning.

I hope in the near future the city plans better, if you need advise call Senator Booker because he did a very good job.

I live on Hunterdon Street btwn Watson and Custer. It is 6:15 and we got our first plow and the street is still now passable. This is a damn shame we are told to have property cleared 24 hrs after the last snowfall and we still cant get off our blocks. We still have to get to work and dig out. Newark needs to be held accountable for the poor response to this storm.

Awful. North 6th street isn’t plowed at all (between 2nd and 3rd Aves) can’t the city ticket those who don’t shovel their sidewalk either? It’s horrendous! It’s pretty obvious The City doesn’t give a crap about the side streets/north ward residents in general.
