Councilman Anibal Ramos Jr. Releases Letter Regarding Healthcare Benefits

budget.jpegCouncilman Anibal Ramos Jr. today released a letter sent to the City Clerk calling for an explanation into why additional healthcare insurance premiums were not collected from Newark employees as required by 2011 state law reforming pension and health benefits.

In the letter, Ramos said the previous administration had attested that the City of Newark was withdrawing the appropriate amount for employee health benefits as required by the the Pension and Health Benefit Reform Law that took effect on June 28, 2011.

Councilman Anibal Ramos Jr. Issues Statement on Newark Budget

“I credit the Baraka administration for being focused on the budget in its first 100 days in office. We had an extremely challenging budget year and his team did a good job combing through year to date expenditures to realize some savings for 2014.

Newark Councilman Anibal Ramos Jr. Sponsors Resolution Expanding Newark’s Smoking Ban

Newark took a big step toward becoming a healthier city after the City Council moved to second reading a resolution sponsored by Councilman Anibal Ramos Jr. that significantly expands a smoking ban to include parks and recreational facilities, a buffer zone around city buildings and city-owned vehicles.

The resolution, which is scheduled for a final vote after a public hearing on Oct. 15, also expands the definition of smoking to include hookas and electronic cigarettes.
