Newark Councilman Anibal Ramos Jr. Sponsors Resolution Expanding Newark’s Smoking Ban

Newark took a big step toward becoming a healthier city after the City Council moved to second reading a resolution sponsored by Councilman Anibal Ramos Jr. that significantly expands a smoking ban to include parks and recreational facilities, a buffer zone around city buildings and city-owned vehicles.

The resolution, which is scheduled for a final vote after a public hearing on Oct. 15, also expands the definition of smoking to include hookas and electronic cigarettes.

Ramos Sponsored Resolution Lays Groundwork for Restoration of Mt. Prospect Park

Newark North Ward Council Anibal Ramos has sponsored a resolution that would lay the groundwork for a rehabilitation and beautification of Mt. Prospect Park in Newark.

Ramos sponsored the resolution, which passed unanimously at the Sept. 17 Municipal Council meeting, awarding a contract to Suburban Consulting Engineers Inc. of Mount Arlington to draw up plans to rehabilitate the long neglected triangular-shaped park between Mt. Prospect Avenue and Mt. Prospect Place.

Councilman Ramos Supports Mayor Baraka’s Plans to End Car Perk for City Employees

Newark North Ward Councilman Anibal Ramos Jr. today praised Mayor Ras Baraka’s plans to end the practice of providing non-police and non-fire officials with 24-hour vehicles

Beginning Monday, all unmarked vehicles being used by directors, managers, and other administrative personnel will be returned to the city’s motor pool, where they will be fitted with the Seal of the City and be inspected for condition and damage. Employees will also be required to turn in their city-issued fuel cards.
