Newark City Hall Closed In Observance of Lincoln's Birthday
Newark City Hall will be closed in observance of Lincoln’s Birthday on Thursday, February 12 and there will be no trash pick-up on that day.
Residents should not put out their trash on Thursday, as doing so may result in a fine. Residents whose garbage is collected by a private contractor will not be affected. On Friday, February 13, regular trash and recycling collections will resume, and residents whose trash and recycling are picked up that day must place their refuse and recycling at their curbs for pick-up by 6 a.m.

Public Programs
The Essex County Environmental Center is located at 621-B Eagle Rock Avenue in Roseland in Essex County West Essex Park and is a facility of the Essex County Park System. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm and Saturday from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Essex County West Essex Park is open to the public every day from dawn until dusk.

Is Newark's Convenience Fee For Online Tax Payments Too High?
In the last week, I have received numerous calls and emails from constituents about the convenience fee charged to pay taxes on line through the city’s website.
First, I want to commend the administration of Mayor Ras Baraka for implementing system that allows our residents to pay property taxes on-line or by phone with credit/debit cards or e-checks. This is a step in the right direction.
Since I joined the City Council in 2006, I have been a longtime advocate for expanding e-government services. I look forward to the day when we also offer this service for water and sewer payments.
